Including iPads, iPods And Tablets, Apple’s iOS Outreaches Android By 59 Percent in the USA

Apr 19, 2011

comScore has just released an interesting study comparing the reach of Apple’s iOS platform to Google’s Android operating system in the U.S. The analytics and data company is reported that Apple’s device with the iOS operating system, including iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches, have a combined platform reach of 37.9 million, outreaching the Android platform by 59 percent.

This data seems to indicate something we already know-Apple is not only a strong contender the smartphone race (in a dead heat with Google) but is also dominating the tablet space with the iPad. The fact is that there hasn’t been an Android tablet that has been able to gain the same sort of traction that the iPad as seen. Of course, comScore’s mobile report from a few weeks ago, which focuses on smartphones, shows that while Google is pulling ahead the Verizon iPhone is helping boost usage of the iPhone.

Tablet Usage Infographic

Apr 14, 2011

Admob (the mobile ad network owned by Google) recently surveyed 1431 tablet device owners to learn more about their usage habits. The survey found that gaming was the number 1 activity for tablet owners and searching is the 2nd most popular activity on tablet devices. This is noteworthy as this is a behavior change from traditional desktop and laptop usage, where searching the web and using email are the top activities.

However, what is truly remarkable about the behavior change reported in the AdMob study is that owners are now spending more time using their tablet devices than they are reading magazines or newspapers, listening to the radio, using their laptop or smartphone and watching TV.

The shift in attention from traditional media platforms to “the second (dual) screen” is an important change for marketers to note, so we visualized the data in the AdMob report to help you make more sense of it.

The infographic below was designed for Search Engine Watch (SEW) by Neil Tweddle(Twitter), from Typo-Graphic (Portfolio). You can download a PDF of the full-size version here: SEW Tablet Usage.pdf

Brand new: “Câmera Trânsito Recife” application for iPad

Apr 8, 2011

We just launched our new site, and we still have many great new things to share!

I wanna talk about Câmera Trânsito Recife, an iPad application that shows real-time traffic situation on the streets of Recife-PE, just where we have one of our offices. As Brazil economy become stronger (being one of the BRIC members), people got more purchasing power, and the automobilistic industry reached sales records. So, it’s a natural thing that, if automobile sales increases in a higher percentual than the economists studied, the cities could be: Big traffics.

It became with a problem for us too, and we think that every problem is an oportunity to create a solution. The application could help many citizens to be informed about the situation of the streets, and they can prevent of getting late or kept in a big traffic. For now, there are 31 cameras operating 24 hours a day, taking images every 30 seconds. With an easy swipe you can navigate through all of the camera screens. The UI also offers a colored bar according to the traffic situation: The green indicates a low traffic, the yellow a moderate and the red indicates a difficult traffic, so you better avoid these.

Here are some screenshots taken with our iPad:
